Our solution is to create a local initiative in which we pay homeless people to collect rubbish from off of our streets. The money would come from our company, which would recycle the rubbish by turning it into jewellery and other items that could be sold to generate revenue. This would provide homeless people with a meaningful employment opportunity that would also improve the cleanliness of our community.

We would like to start a mobile gardening initiative that would begin with our school but could be applied through our whole community. The garden would serve as a source of fresh food for members of our community and inspire more people to get involved with whole food cultivation and healthier consumption. Our solution is to create the Fresh and Sustainable cookbook. The cookbook would include a huge variety of healthy but easy recipes, with each recipe including a QR code allowing the user to watch an instructional video. The cookbook would also have a strong focus on sustainability, encouraging people to incorporate sustainable products into their meal prep. Each cookbook will even come with a family set of sustainable bamboo straws.

How might we fundraise money to stop roadkill?

","solution":"

There are already some steps being taken to help reduce road deaths for native wildlife, such as possum/koala bridges. However, this is not enough and the death toll for koalas is still concerning. This is why we have come up with the solution of a eucalyptus oil spray that could be used to attract koalas to existing bridges to ensure a safe journey to a new home. This would allow the koala populations to begin regeneration, with the support of conservation initiatives.

Our cities are often situated on waterfronts where, in the past, there have been mangroves home to birds and other wildlife. This means that birds such as ibises have lost their habitat and are left to scrounge for food in city areas, where they are considered pests. For example, at our school, the ibises are a big problem as they knock over bins in search of food, leaving litter scattered everywhere.

Our solution is to install bird feeders at our school and in our community. If the birds have a dedicated space to access food and water, they will be less likely to invade our public spaces searching in bins. The bird feeders would include bird seed and a bird bath so that the birds could have the food source they are looking for without stealing ours.

We want to implement a fun morning and after school care program at our school, Coomera River State School, with a focus on physical activity. The program would have a large range of activities available so that there would be something for everyone. In this way, children would be encouraged to engage with each other in a more active lifestyle. The program would also mean that parents would have more free time to take a much needed break.

Housing development leads to the deforestation of an area to make room for infrastructure. When people cut down trees, animals lose their homes. \nCelebrating diversity in schools is the first step towards
\nacceptance. Teaching children about difference and diversity
\nbuilds a strong foundation of understanding”.

We aim to hold a Cultural Carnival at our school to showcase the beautiful diversity in our community. The carnival would have stalls, activities and performances with a focus on cultural diversity in order to raise awareness for the minority groups in our school community who might otherwise suffer from bullying.

Mindful Money Management is an online education package available for subscription to schools and universities. We want to target education systems to improve their programs surrounding financial literacy, and our package will help give existing institutions the resources to make this happen. 25% of the profits generated by the subscription fees of our package will be donated to local homeless shelters to help give the vulnerable members of a community a chance at a new start.

No Violent Way is a wellbeing program that could be run in schools or community centres to help connect teens with the resources and support they need. The program would involve workshops with chaplains, counsellors and other key mentors to connect with youth and deter them from violent behaviour. No Violent Way empowers young people to master their emotions and feelings and respond in a healthy, constructive way.

How might we reduce the amount of plastic in the ocean to save our marine life?

","solution":"

Taking inspiration from innovative techniques used by communities in developing countries, our solution is to recycle old fishing nets to prevent plastic from entering our waterways. Currently, fishing nets account for 40% of all the plastic polluting our oceans, but we want to turn the problem on its head by using old nets to catch plastic instead. The nets would be installed over stormwater drains, allowing water to drain through while keeping most plastic out of our oceans and rivers. This initiative would also provide employment for those responsible for emptying the plastic build up into recycling receptacles.

For each bracelet, 70% of profits goes back into maintaining the program while 30% is donated to a mental health charity. There are three kinds of bracelets at different price points.
