Students levels of stress and anxiety are rising due to the workload that schools impose. As young students ourselves, we experience first hand the struggles of life in the classroom everyday. We recognise the hardships that our classmates face, and have created a product to relieve the stresses and anxiety that are caused. We have close friends who experience stress in the classroom from sitting down for too long and we want to help others who experience these issues. We are the people to do this as we understand personally the struggles in the classroom that our product, MoveMat, will help face.

Our solution is to create a “MoveMat” that will sit under student’s school desks. The MoveMat will enable users to release their energy through movement without disturbing classes. Our MoveMat is a portable device that influences restless students to become more involved in classwork.

Connecting people through light to relieve loneliness

How might we make people who are suffering form loneliness to feel more connected to others?

Smart connected lamps that are paired, when one person touches theirs it sends a signal to the other one resulting in light appearing. Showing that the other person is thinking of them and they are not alone. Using this technology does not require screen time allowing youth to connect without using a phone.

Through our own experiences we have found that knowing that you are not alone is beneficial for our own mental health. We hope to help those who are in need.

The issue that we are addressing is children getting overly distracted and stressed in the classroom environment. This stress and distraction commonly leads to anxiety.

\nOur target customer is primarily school children aged 12-18 that are likely to get distracted in the classroom and who might be dealing with large amounts of stress.

The stress often causes them to fidget or stress but common stress tools are not able to be brought into the classrooms or exams (balls, spinners etc).

How might we decrease the growth of anxiety in school children so it doesn't impact employment and well being in early adulthood?

","solution":"

Our solution is a pencil that has customisable materials on it that children can fidget with. This means they can fidget with this rather than other things that actually distract them from their work.

Importantly they can also be taken into exams - a stressful time for any student!

Our pidget fencils are made out of recycled plastic so it is environmentally friendly.

This is our design and our MVP which was produced following our successful crowdfund. We 3D-printed our product and self-assembled it.

We’ve created cerebrum as a response to a major issue we’ve experienced within the youth of our generation and in our communities. The growing levels of stress due to exams and pressure that is placed on them by teachers, parents and themselves. Though our personal experience we have found that our stress levels and mental health were the largest factors stopping us from growing to our full potential. We needed to solve this issue.

How might we destigmatise mental health among youth?

We believe that through the implementation of horticultural therapy in everyday life that we can provide people with a simple way to create habit and ritual through meditative therapy. Plants have an underutilised natural ability to reduce stress and many of the symptoms mental illness experienced by young adults. By combining these natural benefits with the therapeutic practices of gardening, Cerebrum can help bring a sense of normality and ritual back to people’s lives in a daily basis- you help the plant grow, and it does the same in return.

Our target customer is young females in years 9-12, that are most likely to get stressed from the overwhelming amount of schoolwork and assessments.

We are two year nine students that become stressed over many things, including exams. So we decided to come together and create a product that can promote effective coping strategies for others students to relieve stress anywhere, at anytime.

We go to Kiera High School and have developed the AromaKey with the help of MakersSpace and Co. We were a part of a Youth Incubator run by Young Change Agents and were selected based on a application we submitted in producing a product to battle mental health issues within schools. We believe we have come up with a practical and effective tool to alleviate stress on the go.

An easily accessible key ring that incorporates a calming aromatherapy spray with a textured casing to relieve stress.

Being school students we would love support from designers, producers to provide us with feedback and suggestions to what we could do to improve the product. Including ways to decrease the costs so that it is affordable to all students. In the mean time we will be producing the product ourselves and will be looking for support in purchasing the materials for our product.

In the long term, we are looking for potential suppliers who would like to help us manufacture and distribute the products.

Most of all, we would love as many people trying the AromaKey so we can gather as much ideas, feedback so that we can make AromaKey available in all schools and to all students.
